I'm Ben. Benjamin Smith-Donaldson, if you're interested. This is my personal website. I used it for a while to blog and showcase some of the small achievements of my life, but there wasn't much to that.
These days, I've decided to use this medium to display my work. I'm a writer by my nature; I'm passionate about the power of language. Words can make a person think and feel what another person has experienced. We mistake normal communication as something mundane because of how common the act is, when it's really nothing short of magic, a psychic empathetic link to a human you may have never met.
Not all of the writing I'll put here will be great. Some of it might be great and still never see another form of publication just because it's here. That's fine with me; I don't write to make money (I'd be even more broke if I did!), so having it available to read meets my needs. So delve in, read some things; that's why you're here, isn't it? If it's not, maybe you should anyway; that's why I'm here, isn't it?
It's November and I'm working on NaNoWriMo again. This year is a twist on the common post-apocalyptic scene, which I haven't written much of in the past. I hope it goes okay, but the first 20% has been a lot of fun. I'm writing the whole thing on Google Docs, and I'm going to keep the link up here through the month so that any interested parties can read as I go. Here it is: With a Whimper
I wrote a children's book with a certain person in mind. It wouldn't have been able to exist without her. I had it on here for a while, then took it off per her request, but I feel it belongs here. I'm honestly sorry if that hurts. It's not any less hers just because I want other people to be able to read it. Here it is: Peaches and Trees
“Passion has little to do with euphoria and everything to do with patience. It is not about feeling good. It is about endurance. Like patience, passion comes from the same Latin root: pati. It does not mean to flow with exuberance. It means to suffer.”
